CheckoutRules for the care of bed linen: maintaining quality and comfort for a long time
Bed linen is not just an element of the interior, but a guarantee of quality sleep and hygiene. Proper care allows you to preserve the color, softness and durability of textiles even with intensive use - both at home and in hotels, guest houses or boarding houses.
In this article, we have compiled the key rules for caring for bedding that will help you avoid fabric damage, fading, and loss of shape.
1. The first wash is mandatory
Before you use your bedding for the first time, you need to wash it. This removes production residues (starch, dust) and activates the fiber structure.
- Temperature: 30-40°C
- Mode: delicate
- Without aggressive agents
2. Sort the laundry by color and material
To avoid shedding or color mixing:
- Washwhite laundry separately
- Colored laundry - with similar shades
- Natural fabrics - separately from synthetics
3. Temperature mode of washing
Follow the recommendations on the label:
- Cotton, satin, ranfors: 40-60°C
- Linen - up to 60°C
- Printed fabrics - no higher than 40°C
- Terry linen - 40°C, spin up to 800 rpm
Tip: Too high a temperature leads to discoloration and shrinkage of the fabric.
4. Avoid aggressive chemicals
Do not use chlorine bleaches - they destroy fibers. Choose delicate products or gels. Use rinses in moderation.
5. Turn the laundry inside out
Turn the laundry inside out before washing it. Close all zippers and buttons on pillowcases and duvet covers. This protects the prints and hardware and preserves the vibrancy of the colors.
6. Do not overload the washing machine
The optimal load is up to 70% of the drum. Otherwise, the fabric will not wash well and may be damaged.
7. Drying: natural or mechanical
- Air dry, avoiding direct sunlight
- Dryer - only on the delicate cycle
- Do not dry the laundry on radiators
8. Ironing - how to iron bedding correctly
The bedding should be ironed slightly damp (not overdried), observing the temperature recommended for the specific type of fabric:
- cotton - up to 200°C,
- satin - up to 180°C,
- linen - up to 220°C, pre-moisten,
- microfiber and synthetics - no more than 110-120°C.
Some fabrics do not need to be ironed at all, such as stonewash, especially if they are dried properly - without strong creases and wrinkles.
Features:
- Products with embroidery, decorative elements - iron only from the wrong side, without steam, preferably through a thin cotton fabric.
- Do not leave the hot iron on the fabric for a long time - this may cause shine or damage to the fibers.
- Iron on an ironing board to avoid creating marks and creases.
9. Storage of bedding
After ironing, allow the linen to cool completely before putting it in the closet to avoid condensation and odors.
It is recommended to store the linen
- in a dry, ventilated area,
- in textile bags, organizers or boxes,
- separately from wet or scented items.
For a light scent, use sachets with lavender, mint or other natural herbs, but do not place them directly on the fabric.
10. Replacement frequency
For home: once every 1-2 weeks
For hotels: after each guest or as standard
Summary
Gentle care is not only about aesthetics, but also about hygiene. Following simple rules will help you maintain the quality and durability of your favorite sets.
